The
Parish Family Life Committee seeks to emphasize the importance of human
relationships in the parish. In this regard, the group hopes to promote
enrichment of family life, to provide social opportunities for parishioners
to meet and interact, and to develop an awareness of the needs of singles,
couples, parents, and retired members of our community.
We
are a group of fun-loving and giving parishioners who are actively involved
in many of the social events. Our goal is to host events for the Parish
Community of St. Joseph's on a monthly basis. Currently, our main focus
is helping to coordinate the Lenten Soup Suppers, St. Joseph Feast Day
Celebration, the Easter Egg Hunt and monthly Doughnut Socials. We also
co-sponsor many events in the parish.
We
are always looking for new members - Join us! For more information, please
contact Brian and Jennifer Hirsch (330.297.1465) or the Parish
Office.
Lenten Soup Suppers
A
wonderful St. Joseph tradition continues with our Soup Suppers each Tuesday
evening during Lent. Sponsored by the Parish Family Life Committee and
coordinated by members of various parish and school groups, Soup Suppers
take place in the Hall at 6:00 p.m. Everyone is invited to come and share
homemade soups and delicious breads. "Family-size" pots of soup
and/or breads are needed (simply bring them to the kitchen just prior
to the supper). All are welcome.
ST.
JOSEPH FEAST DAY - March 19th
The principal
feast day of Saint Joseph is March 19, Saint Joseph's Day (for Joseph
the Husband of Mary). Saint Joseph's Day always falls during Lent, and
Saint Joseph's Day altars and feasts have no meat. However, since the
feast day is classed as a solemnity, the requirement of abstinence from
meat is technically abrogated, according to Canon Law, even if it falls
on a Friday. If the feast day falls on a Sunday, the previous Saturday
(March 18) is observed instead, and if it falls during Holy Week or Easter
week, it is moved to the Monday after Low Sunday, or eight days after
Easter (prior to 1970 the Tuesday after Low Sunday was used as the alternate
date).
Easter Egg Hunt
The
Parish Family Life Committee is sponsoring an Easter Egg Hunt for the
children of the parish up to age 9 on Holy Saturday, immediately following
the noon Blessing of Food. Teens are invited to help.
Doughnut Socials
The Parish Family Committee sponsors these wonderful opportunities to
meet and greet your fellow parishioners, usually once a month during the
school year, between the Sunday Masses in Hughes Hall. Please refer to
the weekly bulletin for reminders.
