Did you know that St. Joseph Church will celebrate it's 100th anniversary as a parish this year?!
We became a mission in 1864. On August 17, 1923, Father Gracey became Mantua's first resident pastor and St. Joseph's became a parish. Plans are in the celebrate this big occasion throughout 2023.
If you'd like to help with any of these events or activites,

Our year-long celebration of our parish's 100th anniversary as a church concluding with a Parish Feast Day Appreciation Dinner Dance on Saturday, March 16th. The evening began with a special Mass at 4:30 p.m. presided by Fr. Francis Katrinak. Then, everyone enjoyed a wonderful dinner & dance in Hughes Hall. A huge thank you to everyone who made this past year a great celebration with events each month. We especially want to recognize our 100th Anniversary Committee, volunteers, and clergy for all their hard work. And, of course, to every parishioner who has been a part of our history. OUR PATRON SAINT
Since we didn’t get a proper goodbye before Fr. Ed’s medical health leave of absence in the Spring of 2022, we’re having an Appreciation Reception for him on Saturday, April 15, after the 5 p.m. Mass (no RSVP needed). Come and show your appreciation for his time with St. Joseph and St. Ambrose parishes. There will be light refreshments and dessert. Fr. Ed also celebrates his birthday on April 19th. He’d love to see everyone so mark your calendars!
Fr. Ed became pastor of St. Joseph, Mantua, Sept. 1, 2015.
As of August 15, 2019, St. Joseph Church became a collaborative unit with St. Ambrose Church in Garrettsville and St. Michael Church in Windham with Fr. Ed serving for all three.
In December 2021, St. Michael's was permanently closed merging with St. Ambrose. Following a medical health leave, he returned to ministry to serve as parochial vicar of Blessed Sacrament Parish and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Warren (January 1, 2023).
A springtime event for our parish's 100th is a tasty event for all parishioners on Sunday, May 21, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Pavilion (Hughes Hall if inclement weather). Our Saturday, September 2, event to help raise funds for this year’s 100th Anniversary happenings was a success! We had 20 vendors take part raising $525.00 - thank you for your participation! The parish’s booth sales of past rummage sale and miscellaneous items from the Parish Center basement brought in $159.50. The 50-50 netted $73.00 with winner David Yanetsky donating some of his winnings back to the parish. Several bags of canned goods and $67.00 cash were donated to the 4C’s food cupboard. We thank members of the 100th Anniversary Committee and their families for volunteering for this event. A special shout out to JoDee Romano for providing and manning the concessions, to Dan Nuti for his assistance with set-up, and to two very helpful gentlemen who volunteered their time with putting tables back into Hughes Hall.
