St. Joseph Church in Mantua Celebrates 100 Years of Faith and Community
St. Joseph Church in Mantua marked a historic milestone on August 17, 2023, as it celebrated its 100th anniversary with Mass and Parish Picnic as well as a series of events that will continue throughout the year. The congregation, past and present, came together to commemorate a century of faith, fellowship, and shared memories.
The festivities kicked off with a special anniversary Mass followed by a vibrant and joyful parish chicken and pig roast. The liturgical celebration was presided over by a beloved son of the parish, Fr. James-Peter Trares, OP, who was joined by Fr. Tom McCarthy, a former pastor of St. Joseph Church who served from 1994 to 2003.
Attendees were treated to a lively performance by the Christian rock band Remembrance, which featured some of the talented St. Joseph parishioners. The event was a true testament to the tight-knit community that has flourished within the church's walls over the past century.
In attendance were former teachers, students, and administrators of the St. Joseph School, a testament to the lasting impact the church has had on education in the community. The event was graced by the presence of Pastor Fr. Katrinak, Fr. Ruggieri, and Fr. Luoni, who joined in the celebration with their fellow parishioners.
The delectable fare, including mouthwatering meat and corn, was prepared by the dedicated members of the Mantua Knights of Columbus, with the assistance of JoDee Romano. Parishioners contributed to the feast by bringing their homemade desserts and side dishes, creating a feast befitting the grandeur of a 100th birthday celebration.
The event was adorned with memorabilia from the church's rich history, and attendees had the opportunity to participate in raffle baskets and even a bike giveaway, adding an extra layer of excitement to the occasion.
The organizing committee expressed heartfelt gratitude to the numerous volunteers whose efforts culminated in the success of this remarkable event. The weather, too, seemed to bless the occasion, reaffirming the belief that the celebration was truly guided by a higher power.
As St. Joseph Church in Mantua looks back on a century of unwavering faith and community spirit, it looks forward to the upcoming events that will continue to honor its legacy throughout the year.
